Banks will issue checks printed with special ink from December 2013 to prevent forgery. New bank checks will be printed using special ink which leaves traces of the original issuance numbers even if someone tries to artificially manipulate the numbers. In addition, more sophisticated designs will be used to print issuance numbers and check value to easily track falsified checks. Upon issuance of bank checks exceeding 1 billion won in value, respective bank will be required to register the image of the issued check on electronic system to enable both banks and customers to identify counterfeit checks.
Banks will issue new blank checks from December 16, 2013 and new fixed-value bank checks from April 1, 2014.
