Maritime Finance and Korea’s future

Under the theme of “Oceans of Opportunities Beyond Waves of Changes: the New Ocean Order of the Northeast Asia Rim in the 21st Century,” the 7th World Ocean Forum 2013 was held in Seoul, September 12.

The keynote speech was delivered by John Naisbitt, the author of bestseller Megatrend. The futurologist suggested that the key factor to revive the stagnant global economy is the ocean.

The FSC recently announced the government’s plan to establish Maritime Finance Center in Busan to vitalize ocean industries and develop Busan into Asia’s maritime hub. Such initiative of the government is an appropriate and timely one considering the fact that the future of Korea, a country surrounded by oceans, lies in the marine economy and building creative economy through new ocean industries.
